PIC Development Board

Setting Up PIC dvb.

  • Install MPLAB 8 or above in your PC
  • PIC16f877A development board comes with an A to B usb cable. Connect this to PC and install pickit2 driver from the  mplab installed directory. It may automatically get installed. Verify it from device manager hid interface.
  • Then connect PIC kit with system.                                                                                                                                         USBNW1                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Since we are giving power to Pic Kit using Usb type A to B.We need put a jumper in the board.We can give supply to board by using adapter or use usb cable.Currently we are using usb.So we need to place a jumper in VSEL in correct position as follows.
    jumper                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Jumper should be placed in upper position for getting supply from usb and when we use  adapter for supply,jumper should be placed in downside position.
  • Getting started with Mplab
  • Step 1 : Open MPLAB IDE
  • Step 2 : Go to Project >> Project Wizard                                                                                                                       projectwizard

  • Step 5 : Select language tool
  • Select active toolsuite – Hi-tech universal Toolsuite

  • Step 6 : Create the Project file
  •  Browse to the folder to where you need to save the project
  •  Save the name of the project with .mcp extension (led.mcp)
  •  Click save

  • Step 7 : Add files for the Project
  •   =>If you have files to add
  •         Go to the file folder
  •         Select the file
  •         Click Add
  •         Click next
  •   =>If you don’t have files to add simply click next

  •  Step 8 : Create C file
  •  =>  Go to file >> new
  • => Write the C code in text box
  • =>Save the file
  •      o Go to file>>Save
  •      o Browse to the folder where the project has been saved
  •      o Give the name for the file with .c extension
  •      o And click save
  • Step 9 : Add source File to the project
  •   Right click source file
  •   Click add files
  •   Browse the c file from the folder

  • Step 10 : Set Configuration bits
  •   Go to Configure >> configuration bits
  •   Untick configuration bits set in code
  •   Click ok
  •       o Change oscillator setting to HS
  •       o  Watchdog timer to off o Power up timer off
  •       o Low voltage program to disable

  • Step 11 : Build HEX file
  •    From project click built
  •    If there is no errors then in output box it will show built successful
  •    If there are errors in the code will be mentioned                                                                     build copy.jpg
  •   Step 12 : Program the IC using picket programmer
  •       Go to programmer >> select programmer >> Pickit 2
  •       Program tool kit will appear
  •          o Click Connection check from program toolbar
  •          o Make sure the kit is connected to the system
  •          o Ready massage will be show in the output box conection copy.jpg
  • Click program the target device target copy.jpg
  • If programming is successful then click bring target MCLR to Vddvdd copy.jpg                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Now kit will work as which program you have loaded.Now we can check some  programs for loading in kit.And study about communication,lcd,matrix keyboard,led,etc.Following are some programs we can check in our Pic kit.
